Twenty members of Brentwood Bowling Club headed for the seaside on Friday 11th July for the annual friendly against Clacton.
In keeping with tradition, the gathering point for the trippers was the Toby Carvery on the seafront for late morning coffee followed by early lunch.
There was plenty of time for a healthy walk along the prom before the game got under way at 2.30 by which time the Brentwood contingent had clearly worked off their lunches and were raring to go.
Five rinks were in play and the visitors won three, drew one and lost one, winning the day by 114 – 65 overall.
After tea -including a selection of delicious cakes – Brentwood’s captain-for-the-day Richard Rose thanked the hosts for a warm welcome and presented miniatures to members of his top rink – Ann Betts, Rose Collins, Brian Martin and skip Ron Lofts – who finished 25 shots ahead of their opponents after 21 ends.
Other teams were: Kath Jolly, John Young, Cliff Jaycock and Richard Rose; Ken Collins, Kate Davies, Margaret Rayment and Ron Jolly; Patrick Miller, Trevor Pedley, Marje Shute and Byron Davies; Alan Pool, Joan Stevenson, Geoff Byatt and Maureen Jaycock.
