Forty members of Brentwood Bowling Club took part in the annual Captains’ Day competition on Sunday 5th August.
Four rinks of triples and two rinks of fours competed for the honours which went to Richard Rose, Janet Howson and new member Roy Hewlett.
After a supper of fish or chicken and chips in the pavilion, men’s captain Fred Wasmuth and ladies’ captain Margaret Rayment welcomed players and guests before outlining the highs and lows of the season. They gave details of achievements in league games, club and external competitions and paid tribute to players, officials and volunteers for their continued support.
Fred presented Margaret with a bouquet in recognition of her untiring work on behalf of the club and he made a special presentation to stalwart John Howard in gratitude for his efforts which include opening the clubhouse every morning.
Margaret made special mention of Kate Davies, Marion Lofts and Ann Powell and presented each with flowers.
