2018 Invitation Triples

Upminster A have carried off the top trophy in Brentwood Bowling Club’s men’s annual invitation triples competition played at King George’s Playing Fields on Sunday 1st July 2018.

Twenty-four teams from Essex and the London boroughs took part in the prestigious event which saw two newcomer teams – Chingford-based Silverthorn and Harlow – take second and third places with just three points separating the top three.

Teams played five games of seven ends throughout the day and going into the last, the eventual winners turned up the heat to convert a three-point deficit into a two-point lead.

Main organiser of the event was Brentwood men’s captain Fred Wasmuth who thanked the 72 players taking part before presenting trophies and cash awards totalling more than £500 to the winning teams. He was unable to present special consolation prizes to the Orsett team who left before the presentation.

Fred also thanked everyone who had contributed to the success of the day including Bentley Crematorium which has generously sponsored the event for several years. He also thanked scorekeeper Mark Rose, host club treasurer Peter Hayward who organised breakfast, ladies’ captain Margaret Rayment and her team who served lunch and refreshments, volunteer bar staff, and raffle organiser Brenda Watson.
