Brentwood are trailing by six points after the first leg of the Centenary Plate annual friendly at Southend-based Essex County on Sunday 17th June 2018.
Despite this year’s date clashing with Father’s Day, both clubs fielded four mixed teams for the game which ended with a 76 – 70 scoreline.
Brentwood’s top rink players were James Nolan, Brian Martin, Byron Davies and skip Margaret Rayment who finished with a score of 27 shots, 10 clear of their opponents.
Other teams were: Rob Funnell, Ted Vidler, Maureen Jaycock, Fred Wasmuth; Alison Hare, Kath Jolly, Cliff Jaycock, Ron Lofts; Dave Sach, Marion Lofts, Kate Davies, Keith Newberry.
After the game, Brentwood men’s captain Fred Wasmuth said: “We were warmly received by host captain Colin Perry and the individual matches were played in the true spirit of bowls, including a lot of banter and good humour.
“I was rather pleased as much the same as last year we are in a good position
for the return leg to be played at our venue on Sunday 12th August so very
hopeful we can once again retain the silver salver … and hopefully it won’t go
missing this time!”
