Brentwood’s Fred Wasmuth and Keith Newberry are through to the final of the BDBA pairs competition after an incredible last-wood clincher in their semi.
They were up against ex-Brentwood player Adam Smith and Terry Brown of Kings Chase, playing on a neutral green at Haynes Park on Thursday 17th August 2017.
The pair got off to a good start after winning the toss but going into the last end their opponents had levelled the score at 16-all.
Kings Chase were holding one shot as Keith prepared to deliver the last wood of the game and it looked like nothing short of a miracle was needed. The tense silence was broken by a sharp intake of breath as his hallmark size 5 wood glided with perfect line and weight on to the jack to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Fred said: “I can’t tell you how we both felt but the pint afterwards was very enjoyable.”
News of the win has travelled fast and the pair have already received a message of congratulation from club chairman Richard Rose on holiday in Norway.
