As usual, the advance party met for elevenses at the Greensward Cafe on the seafront before moving on to the nearby Toby Carvery for lunch.

There was plenty of time for a stroll along the prom, ice creams and a tour of the resort’s magnificent floral displays before the afternoon’s games got under way with six triples rinks in play.

The weather was pleasantly warm with sunny intervals later in the afternoon but there was a brisk breeze at times which added a challenge.

Although it’s often said that scores are not important in friendlies, visiting men’s captain Fred Wasmuth couldn’t resist the temptation to reveal that Brentwood had won overall 121 – 61.

At an after-game reception with tea and cakes, teams were welcomed by host captain Brian Jacobs who raised a laugh when he said: “I’m not going to tell you the score but Clacton has still got a 100 percent record of losing!”

Fred Wasmuth responded saying that the visitors had had a very enjoyable afternoon and all hoped to be be invited back next year.

He presented prizes to players on Brentwood’s top rink – Joan Stevenson, Brian Martin and Ron Lofts – who finished the afternoon 30 shots ahead. Three other Brentwood teams also had wins, one lost and there was one draw.
