Captain-for-the-day Trevor Pedley welcomed members of Stock and Buttsbury BC to Brentwood for the annual friendly on Thursday 6th July when conditions were perfect, warm with a cooling breeze and no sign of the threatened showers.
He said: ‘Unfortunately Stock were unable to field a stronger team due to other commitments so the overall score was somewhat lopsided but in any case it wasn’t about the result but more about the competition and meeting old friends.’
He praised the efforts of Brentwood’s Barbara Morrish and Joan Stevenson who provided a lovely spread of tea and cakes at half time and he thanked the volunteers who manned the bar before and after the game.
The Brentwood squad, in no particular order, included Pat Miller, Brian Duffield, Marion Lofts, Trevor Pedley, Peter Smith, Phil Carroll, Kate Davies, Ted Vidler, Jean Kaye, Peter Wilson, Allan Medcraft, Byron Davies, Dave Morris, Keith Howson, Margaret Rayment and Ron Lofts.
To round off the afternoon, Trevor awarded pens to the members of the greatest losing team from Stock for their perseverance and good humour despite the score.
