The 2017 season got off to a bright start with a mixed drive for members of Brentwood Bowling Club on Saturday 22nd April.
Morning rain cleared to make way for sunny spells in the afternoon when 17 members took part in the competition of three six-end games with players keeping individual scorecards.
As expected at the start of the season, players found the green heavy going and most were beginning to feel muscles they’d forgotten about by the end of the afternoon when they retired to the pavilion for tea and biscuits and the announcement of winners.
There was laughter, groans and shouts of ‘fix’ as men’s captain Fred Wasmuth revealed that not only had he won the top cash prize but co-organiser and vice-captain Trevor Pedley had landed the runner’s up cash award. Byron Davies and Trevor Watson were joint third and received miniature bottles of spirits.
Fred, who had just returned from an Antipodean holiday, also presented koala novelties to all the ladies.
