Veteran lawn bowler Ron Lofts led his team to victory in the Richards Trophy mixed triples competition at Brentwood Bowling Club on Sunday 30th August.
Twenty-four players took part in this year’s competition in tribute to the memory of former members George and Olive Richards from Doddinghurst. Centenarian George died in 2011 and his wife died seven years earlier at the age of 90.
Their daughter Celia Eade from Chelmsford and husband Frank were guests at this year’s event at King George’s Playing Fields and presented the trophy to the winning team.
Celia thanked officials for their invitation to spend the afternoon at the club and congratulaed Ron and his team members Pam Robinson and Les Powell.
She said her parents would have been delighted to know that the family’s association with Brentwood Bowling Club was continuing due to the trophy competition.
The eight teams taking part each played three games of six ends with points awarded for shots and ends won. Scorekeepers Ann Rose and Cliff Jaycock revealed that only three points separated the top three teams.
Runners-up were Maureen Jaycock (skip) with Kate Davies and Harry Everid and in third place were Geoff Byatt (skip) with Ann Powell and Joan Stevenson.
