Ladies’ Gala Day 2015

The annual Ladies’ Gala Day on Wednesday 5th August was a resounding success with 22 visiting teams enjoying an excellent triples compeition. Apart from an occasional drop of rain, the weather stayed fine as teams played four games of six ends, gaining 10 points for a win plus one for each end won. Only two teams – Sheila Endean’s Haynes Park 1 and Val Druce’s South Benfleet and Canvey – won all four games but Sheila’s team won on ends to carry off the top cash prize of £90. Val’s team collected the runners-up prize of £60 and third-placed Gidea Park 1 under skip Joan Garforth picked up £30.

Brentwood captain Margaret Rayment welcomed everyone and presented the awards, including tubes of Smarties for the team most likely to improve – Basildon-based Murrayfield. Margaret thanked her army of helpers who served refreshments and lunches and organised a host of activities including stalls, raffles and golden bucket. She also thanked volunteers from the men’s section who lent a hand with preparations, scorekeeping and bar duty. Brentwood members who supported the fundraising activities were rewarded with a share of the spoils, notably Ann and Richard Rose who won a hamper, Maureen Jaycock who won an orchid and £15 store voucher, and Kath ‘I Never Win Anything’ Jolly who got the £50 golden bucket prize.
