Brentwood Bowling Club president Byron Davies changed hats on Thursday 28th August when, as president of the Essex Vice-Presidents’ Bowling Association, he led his teams to victory at King George’s Playing Fields.
Brentwood men’s captain Richard Rose welcomed the visitors and said: “Byron and I both joined this club at roughly the same time and that was probably more years ago than either of us care to remember.
“Between us we have seen lots of changes to the club and I have to say many of these were as a direct result of Byron’s energy and drive.
“This year it has been very pleasing that Byron has been given the honour of being president of EVPA. Likewise it has been an honour for our club and has given us the opportunity of hosting this game.”
The friendly was played on six rinks and ended with the visitors winning by 134 – 92 shots. Richard skipped on Brentwood’s winning rink with Paul Harrison, Charles Thorne and Geoff Cope who were presented with notebooks to mark their achievement.
Other Brentwood teams: Ken Collins, Alan Pool, Ron Waller, Ron Loifts; Patrick Miller, Trevor Watson, Alan Pyke, Ron Jolly; Trevor Pedley, Rob Dellar, Brian Martin, Fred Wasmuth; Roy Akers, Stuart Lawson, Colin Peak, Geoff Byatt; Robert Funnell, Laurie Darnell, Derek Robinson, Cliff Jaycock.
