Brentwood Bowling Club’s Ann Betts is half way to achieving her Essex badge after getting through to the semis of the county unbadged singles.
Her competition hopes were dashed on Sunday 24th August when she was beaten by just two shots with a late rally by Jackie Barham-Holt of South Woodford who later went on to become county champion.
Ann had been leading from the second end of the game played on a neutral green at Wickford and she came close to winning with 18 already on the board and three shots in the head. However, this provided too big a target and her opponent ruined the party and went on to win 21 – 19.
Ann took up the sport in 2011 and her success in this year’s county unbadged singles has been the highlight of her achievements which include a string of trophies at club level. She now has four of the eight points needed for a badge to enable her to play for the county.
