There was a feeling of deja vu at the Richards Trophy competition at Brentwood Bowling Club on Sunday 3rd August when there were two familiar faces among the winners.
Cliff Jaycock has been in the winning team every year since the competition was launched three years ago and Marina Thorne has helped to win the silverware twice. This year, they were joined by men’s captain Richard Rose.
Twenty-four players took part in this year’s mixed triples competition in tribute to the memory of former members George and Olive Richards from Doddinghurst. Centenarian George died in 2011 and his wife died seven years earlier at the age of 90.
Their daughters, Janet Alderton from Hook End near Brentwood and Celia Eade from Chelmsford, together with Celia’s husband Frank were guests at this year’s event and presented the trophy to the winning team.
Celia congratulated the recipients and thanked officials for inviting family members to spend the afternoon at the club.
The eight teams taking part each played three games of six ends and the winners were the only players to win all their games.
Runners-up Ann Betts, Brian Martin and Ron Jolly won two of their three games to go one point clear of their nearest rivals.
Other teams: Fred Wasmuth, Patrick Miller, Kath Jolly; Ron Lofts, Les Powell, Maureen Jaycock; John Howard, Trevor Pedley, Kate Davies; Byron Davies, Trevor Watson, Marje Shute; Ron Waller, Peter Wilson, Margaret Rayment; Geoff Byatt, Paul Harrison, Joan Stevenson.
