Brentwood Bowling Club men’s teams had a good win in the Essex County Top Club competition against a strong Great Baddow squad on Thursday 29th May.
The competition consists of a fours, triples, pairs, four-wood singles (first to 21) and two-wood singles (21 ends), with the result depending on number of games won.
Fred Wasmuth lost the two-wood singles against the current Eastern Counties two-wood champion but Brentwood’s Adam Smith had a comfortable win in the four-wood singles.
The other three games were quite close. In the fours, Byron Davies, Geoff Byatt, Ron Jolly and Cliff Jaycock were always behind but not by much and eventually lost 18 – 14.
The triples of Ron Lofts, Keith Newberry and Paul Harrison were ahead most of the time and won 19 – 14, leaving the pairs team of Richard Rose and John Howard with everything to play for. They held the lead throughout against a strong Baddow pair, but this was whittled down to just two shots with two ends to go.
Richard said: “We managed to squeeze one shot on the 20th end which left us three up going into the last end and in the end Baddow could not do anything and we ended up winning 19 – 13.”
In the next round of the competition on Saturday 14th June, Brentwood are due to play at home against RHP who had a good win against Falcon.
