Brentwood Bowling Club’s annual dinner and awards presentation took place at The Eagle in Kelvedon Hatch on Saturday 2nd November 2013.
More than 60 members and guests were welcomed by club president Byron Davies who congratulated all the winners and runners-up who were due to receive awards.
He also thanked competition secretaries Cliff Jaycock and Ann Rose for their hard work in organising this year’s awards, and men’s section treasurer Peter Hayward for producing the programme.
He revealed that this year’s winner of the prestigious Clubman of the Year Award was social member Mark Rose in recognition of his work ‘behind the scenes’ throughout the season.
Another award announced on the night was for the men’s section Most Promising New Bowler trophy which went to Paul Harrison.
Ladies’ awards were presented by ladies’ captain Margaret Rayment, assisted by Ann Rose. With the exception of the Ron Morrish Trophy, men’s awards were presented by men’s captain Richard Rose, assisted by Cliff Jaycock. One of the lighter moments of the evening came when an award was announced for Patrick Miller who is still trying to forget the day he overslept and held up departure of the club’s coach outing to Henley on Thames. To emphasise the fact that on this occasion Patrick had remembered to turn up on time, he stepped forward wearing a nightcap and with a cardboard alarm clock hanging round his neck!
