Goodchild Trophy win

Brentwood have once again won the Goodchild Trophy triples competition played each year between Brentwood and Central Essex bowling clubs which both have their home at King George’s Playing Fields.

The trophy was donated by Central Essex player Oliver Goodchild and his wife Doreen and was first played for in 1996. With the exception of 2007, it has been won each year by Brentwood.

The first leg of this year’s friendly fixture was played on 30th April when hosts Brentwood banked a 32-point lead. In the second leg hosted by Central Essex on Thursday 11th September, the lead increased to 69.

Howard Styles of Central Essex raised smiles when he welcomed players to the clubhouse and pointed out the facilties and fire exits. After the game, he presented the trophy to Brentwood captain Richard Rose.

Brentwood’s top rink in the second leg was skipped by Steve Shute with lead Keith Howson and Kath Jolly as number two. Steve finished the afternoon 12 points ahead – just one point more than wife Marje who was skip on another rink. Marje confided that Steve would be preparing his own dinner when they got home!
