Captains’ Day

Captains’ Day was celebrated on Sunday 11th August with an afternoon of bowling followed by supper in the clubhouse for players and guests.

Forty players – six rinks of triples and one rink of three-wood pairs – competed for the top rink award with the honours going to Marina Thorne (lead), Derek Robinson (second) and Geoff Byatt (skip). They ended the afternoon 17 shots ahead of their opponents to win bottles of wine.

Men’s captain Richard Rose and ladies’ captain Margaret Rayment welcomed everyone to the event and gave a review of the 2013 season to date, with special mention of team and individual successes.

They also paid tribute to fellow officials and members for their support throughout the season.

Richard said: “A club is nothing without its members and I am grateful to you all for having made it so easy for me this season.”

He presented Margaret with a gift to mark the club’s appreciation of her efforts and said: “Margaret does a marvellous job in organising many of our activities and visits such as the one to Aldeburgh last Friday.”
