Brentwood Bowling Club ladies beat Romford by eight shots in the first round of the county two-fours competition played one rink at home and one away on Thursday 18th July. They will now meet Goodmayes-based Barley in the next round of the annual competition for the Albert Crabb Trophy on 14th August. The home team – Maureen Jaycock (skip), Marje Shute (three), Pam Baker (two) and Kath Jolly (lead) – won by two shots. The away team – Margaret Rayment, Julie Dixon. Kate Davies and Pam Robinson – won by six shots.
Brentwood’s Julie Dixon and Kath Jolly beat Jean Smith and Joan Gay from neighbouring Kings Chase in the Hartswood pairs competition and will now play Liberty in the semi-final on 2nd August.
Brentwood men’s hopes in the county double-fours competition have been dashed by Kings Chase. Captain Richard Rose said the teams went down fighting, losing a close match 35 – 30. Kings Chase will now meet Courtauld Halstead in the next round.
