Brentwood ladies won the first round of the national Top Club competition against Gidea Park on Saturday 18th May when they played in four disciplines – singles, pairs, triples and fours.
Due to Illness and injuries, they struggled to find 10 players plus umpire and marker which meant that the reserves had to be called in … and ‘did us proud’ said ladies’ captain Margaret Rayment.
In the singles, Pam Robinson was level after eight ends and went on to win 21 – 9. The fours with Alison Dartnell, Pam Baker, Barbara Morrish and skip Margaret Rayment won 17 – 13.
Julie Dixon and Kate Davies finished the pairs game with a score of 14 – 16 and the triples team – Marina Thorne, Marje Shute and Maureen Jaycock – battled the rink to keep close enough to help Brentwood win 67 – 58 overall.
Brentwood ladies will now meet Barley Bowls Club from Ilford in the next round on Saturday 25th May.
